There comes that point when it is time to give ourselves a midlife makeover. When we were girls we wore make up in order to look older and more sophisticated. When we became women we wore make up to enhance our natural beauty and now that we are in the third age, we wear make up to hide our age.

Here are ten make up tips to hide your age.

1. Moisturise

Apply moisturiser onto your face and leave for ten minutes before applying your foundation.

2. Add Water

To achieve a smoother finish use a creamy foundation with a drop of water.

3. Lighter Concealer

Use a concealer that is a shade lighter than your skin and apply before you do the general coverage of your foundation. Blend the foundation into the concealer to hide imperfections.

4. Lighter Blusher

Used a lighter, softer shade of blusher on the cheekbones.

5. Softer Eyeliner

Choose softer eyeliners in greys or browns and draw them on your upper eye only. A dark-chocolate eyeliner will enhance rather than draw attention to fine lines.

6. Powder Eye-shadows

Use powder eye shadow because cream based formulas can settle into the creases of the lids.

7. Avoid Excess Glitter & Sparkly

Avoid shimmer. Formulas with shiny particles will illuminate every line, pore and wrinkle. Leave the shimmer for “tweens” and young girls.

8. Switch from Shading to Highlighting

Instead of shading your face, switch to highlighting. These are not the years of your life that you want to look gaunt. Use paler hues to accentuate under the brows of your eyes to get a mini lift and try using a lighter blush along the cheekbones rather than under them to plump your cheeks.

9. Blot Instead of Powder

9. Too much powder will make you look older. Everyone in the make up industry is unanimous on this point. Be careful how much powder you apply and avoid re-applying through the day as a quick fix. Use blotting papers for a shiny forehead, nose and chin rather than powder.

10. Practice, Practice, Practice

Take some time out to sit in front of a mirror and re-imagine your new look. Experiment with these tips and to create a softer looking you. Practice apply your new look; after all it took you years to get good at what you were doing before, so do yourself the favour and get great at your new look.

    Great makeup tips.

Besides making up, it is also a good idea to know how to preserve beauty.

    1) Gently slapping your own face everyday helps. It helps to keep your face firm.

    2) Your diet matters. Eat less. Go vegetarian if possible.

    3) Sleep early. Get sufficient sleep.

    4) Exercise regularly. Chi kung is something you can consider. It helps slow down the aging process. You can even consider La Jing Pai Da.

    5) Smile more often. Be happy. Smiling instantly makes you look younger and more beautiful.
