Aging … deal with the negative and rejoice in the positive!

Aging … deal with the negative and rejoice in the positive!
I read an article yesterday written by a 44 year old journalist/wife/mother which made me feel very sad … her viewpoint was that aging is  terrible thing, it comes upon you with breathless speed, and is something we “deal with”. There was also a lot of  ”I know I should be feeling …” and “I know I should be looking forward to …” and I can...

Depression and Low Self-Esteem

Depression and Low Self-Esteem
Have you noticed how many women, especially those of a certain age, complain of having low self-esteem . If you are suffering with depression, it’s possible to turn low self-esteem into something that can spiral out of control. Because we are all inclined to judge ourselves too harshly, we are able to create our own low self-esteem. Stress can have the same effect. And we may cause self-esteem problems...

Are you ready to become YOU? Sharing some of me …
If I take a moment and look back on my teenage years, my twenties, my thirties and my forties, I marvel at the self-confidence, self-esteem and sheer unadulterated chutzpah with which I lived! Do you recognise yourself yet? I was slim and gorgeous. I was fortunate enough to have had a wide and varied education. By the time I was 40 I had visited 48 countries and lived in four. I was an actress, I was...

You Are What You Eat … Especially in Menopause

You Are What You Eat … Especially in Menopause
What are the things most women complain about in menopause? Hot flushes, mood swings, hot flashes, fatigue, mood swings, sleep problems hot flashes, weight gain and even more mood swings … I know, I keep repeating certain symptoms, but I just want to reinforce the idea that more women complain about mood swings and hot flushes/flashes, than any other symptom  … except weight gain...

Menopause Myth Busting

Menopause Myth Busting
My friend Katy Manning Usually you only here the bad about menopause, but it’s important to remember that 20% of women will never experience a hot flash/flush or mood swings. So for those of you dreading the event (which in terms of inevitability, ranks up there with death and taxes!),  let’s separate some fact from fiction. If a woman hasn’t had a period for 12 consecutive months, she’s officially...

Don’t worry … be happy!

Don’t worry … be happy!
In case you were wondering, as we age, friends offer us not just long-term physical benefits, but they also offer tremendous emotional benefits. There are many studies that show healthy relationships make aging more enjoyable. They can help lessen grief and provide support to help you reach personal goals, and many other things. They are as necessary to your health as good eating and exercise. There...

I hate to be a wet blanket, but …

Coming in to the Christmas period, this may not be the blog post anybody wanted, But forewarned is forearmed and alcoholism in women is a growing problem, especially among young girls. Studies show that women who drink too much alcohol are more likely to suffer from significant alcohol problems than men. They age more quickly and are liable to look a good 10 years older than a woman of the same age...

Check ups for healthy women to stay healthy …

Check ups for healthy women to stay healthy …
Screening tests (mammograms, Pap smears and the like),  can detect diseases early, when they are easier to treat. There are some women may need certain tests earlier (or more often) than others. All of the following are based on scientific evidence, but each person’s situation is a little different.  Check with your doctor to see which test/s you need and when you should have it/them done: Mammograms:...

All things PC and the death of Common Sense …

All things PC and the death of Common Sense …
Mummified ... I was about to write a blog post about the sad demise of common sense and I received the following on my Facebook page: Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable...

Brain Fog!

Brain Fog!
Brain fog is not listed as a diagnosis or a medical condition in most medical or psychological textbooks. Does it exist? Ask most women of a certain age and they’ll say YES. It can be described as mental confusion or lack of mental clarity and is sometimes referred to as cognitive dysfunction; it affects thousands of people, including children and adults and, of course, women of a certain age....

The challenges we face … or not!
